Hello Everyone, I recently started humira injections but after the 4th injection I developed shingles. The spots have now healed but I've had a heavy feeling in my chest with painful episodes since I was first diagnosed nearly 4 wks ago now. Last wk my hubby had to rush me to A & E as I had the most intense chest pains but they couldn't find anything wrong. My rheumie thinks it's related to the shingles. I have no energy at all and get short of breath very easily. Has anyone else encountered this and how long was it before things settled down? I can't go back on humira until everything is back to normal and my joints are now crying out for some help!!! Thanks everyone....... Allison x

Hi Alison, sorry I can't help here, never had shingles, it sounds like you've had an awful time with it and I hope you begin to feel well again soon. Would it be worth contacting your rheumy team to see if there's anything else they can give you to help with the painful joints until you can restart the humira? Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Sheila

Hi Allison, I developed shingles sometime last year, I was working in a nursery and as many of the kids were off with chicken pox, think thats where it came from. I just had two small patches on my hip and did not have any other problems it went as quick as it came. Just over a week if I remember. I never had any breathlessness or anything like that. My mum and dad both had it the year I was diagnosed with RA, mum said you can get a nerve ending pain for sometime afterwards and it can be very waring and debilitating. I do hope you feel better soon. Hope this is a help to you. Lorna

Oh Alison. sorry to hear this. I would for sure be in touch with your rheumy deprtment for help on this. I aalso have terrible episodes where I have what can only be described as heart attack pains but these have been found to be causewd by spasms in the gullet. Unknown cause-I did however have an ECG to check that it wasn't my heart-I'm presuming you had one of those at A&E? Also, do you think you might have asthma at all? I've been given an inhaler and it has certainly helped with the breathlessness. Do you take stomach protectors? YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Julie, yes I had an ECG at the hospital but nothing was found to be wrong with the heart, thanks goodness! I haven't been checked for asthma though. At the moment, my rheumie and rheumie nurse think that it's all connected to the shingles, and I have to wait for it to settle down before going back on humira. I will mention it to them though. Thank you for your helpful comments........ Allison x

Sorry to hear you have shingles. I had it last year on my back and it was horrible. I don't remember chest problems with it. Keep in touch with your rheummy dept, and hope you feel much better soon! Jan xx

Hi Alison, So sorry to hear you have shingles - not nice. Has your rheumy nurse not suggested doing any lung function tests? I had chest problems which were eventually put down to MTX, and had to stop it. Take care, Kathleen x

Oh poor you Alison,
That must be immensely painful and worrying.
I know shingles are very intense and painful and can linger for a long time.
Take good care,
Amanda

Hi Alison Sorry to hear you have shingles. I had them at the beginning of August and had feverish headaches, feeling unwell, breathlessness (I am asthmatic) but no chest pains. All spots vanished after about three weeks but still get some nerve pains occasionally. Hope you are feeling better soon Min xx
